The day has arrived and with this being the last event for the 2015/ 2016 horseracing season all the horses eligible and the major stables are ready for an action packed day of racing. Despite the numerous activities the place to be will be the Rising Sun Turf Club, Arima Park West Coast Berbice. Thousands are expected to swarm the venue for the inaugural “Mohammed “Nankoo” Shariff Memorial one day horserace meet slated for today.
The event organised by the RSTC is being held in collaboration with Banks DIH Limited, Inshan Bacchus Trucking Service and The Trophy Stall of Bourda market. Other main sponsors on board are the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales, Rising Sun cattle Ranch, Habla Meat Centre and the Chester fried Chicken, Bush Lot West Coast Berbice.
Over $5M are up for grabs with over 65 horses down to participate. The top stables and top Jockeys are all well prepared and ready to go and a sizzling and action pack day of racing is anticipated.
The feature D and lower Shariff Memorial 1400M classic sponsored by Banks DIH Limited will see a return clash between the inform and fired up Spit Fire of the Shariff Stable and the much Improved Lady Budapest of The Bactowar Stable. However both horses can have their work cut out with the likes of, Just call me Boss, Princess she not, Diplomatic Cat, Good Will Boy, Unsettled, Storm Mark and Strom Bird looking to create a storm for the $700,000 winners money and the Coveted banks DIH Trophy.
The recently added event for horses classified D3 maiden and E class winners over 1100M for a winning purse of $400,000 and trophy has the likes of Precise Gold, Storm Bird, Red and Lovely, Appealing Harvest Storm Mark and Big Man Boss among others in the lineup.
Most of the horses in the two feature races have also been entered for the E and lower 1400M event for a winning take of $500,000 and trophy.
The G class showdown has a winners money of $300,000 and trophy over 1400M with the likes of Campador, Big Man Boss, Settling Star, It’s MY Choice and Royal Empire in the running.
They are expected to be some surprises in the H2 and lower race where a large and competitive field has been assembled with Cat Messiah, Mary Ann, She so Special, Honest Penny, Secret Return, Party Time, Cassie, Princess Maya, Quiet Strom Amazing Run and Weekend Surprise looking to take home the $220,000 and a trophy.
It is anticipated to be a fiery event with Little looking for another big performance as it comes up against the likes of Secret Escape, De Gump, Affinity, Massiquita Dr and Red Jet in the J and lower1100M race for a winner’s cheque of $180,000 and trophy over.
The final two events are for animals classified K and Lower and L and lower with the distances being 1100M and the winner will take home $150,000 and $100,000 dollars and trophies respectively. Horses such as Speed Vision, Blue Lightning, Upfront, Red Region, Mystic, Miss Maya and Golden Kiss have been entered to participate in both events.
Outstanding individual performers including top jockey, runner up, trainer and stable will be presented with trophies and other accolades compliments of Ramesh Sunich proprietor of Trophy Stall.
The Race will be held under the rules of the Rising Sun Turf Club and Bugle time is 12:30 hrs.
