A post-mortem examination conducted on the remains of Avichand Lall Jagwant, whose body was found on the rocky seaside of the Kitty seawall last Wednesday, revealed that he died from asphyxiation due to drowning.
The examination was performed by government pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh, at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) yesterday.
Jagwant, of Lot 131 Lusignan, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was last seen alive two Mondays ago. Two days later, his body was found.
A relative of the man said that he moved from his parents’ residence a few years ago and was living in Better Hope, ECD by some friends. He did odd jobs for a living.
She explained that his mother was notified that he had been missing and that a body was found at the seawall.
“His mother went to the funeral home and identified him by a scar he had above his eye. When he was small, he was catching fish and fall and burst his eye top so he had to do operation on his eye,” the relative said.
Detectives found Jagwant’s nude and decomposing body stuck between several large rocks close to the 1823 Monument.
There were no visual marks of violence on his body.
