Dear Editor,
This APNU-AFC Government has no interest in and is unconcerned about the living standards of the Retired Civil Servants (RCS). For this year, the RCS were given 5 percent increase retroactive from July. The reality is that the RCS were given two and a half percent increase from January.
The PPP government never gave the RCS two and a half percent increase. They always gave the RCS more than 5 percent increase per year, retroactive from January. Whatever the public servants receive, the RCS always get the same increase.
For this year, Public servants receive 5 percent plus $5000 per month retroactive from July. They are got an additional $50000 for this year. The RCS can only get two and a half percent.
Minister Harmon gave a reluctant apology for the 50 percent the old, pensionable Ministers are getting from July-six weeks after they became ministers. I wonder if he has any apology for the meager two and a half percent increase the RCS received for this year.
Just imagine the RCS, some of whom gave more than 30 years service to the country, are still receiving pension below the minimum wage. What the government is telling the nation is that the cost of living is only affecting Public Servants and Ministers; the RCS do not have financial needs.
This is the change we are getting-change for the worse. Just imagine NIS pensioners were given 5% increase for 2015 after so many years. When again will NIS pensioners receive an increase in the pension?
For 2015, the APNU-AFC government gave the old age Pensioners $300 increase per month. Can you believe that? The PPP Government was already paying them nearly $17,000 per month (inclusive of GWI and GPL subsidies). Does this APNU-AFC Government have any sympathy for the Retired Civil servants, NIS Pensioners and old Age pensioners? I doubt whether.
The Fat Cats are out. The Father cats are in. The House cats are starving. Isn’t there any person/organization who can represent the 60 year old plus? There is nothing in the news which is highlighting the pains, plight, suffering and helplessness of the 60+ or Retirees.
Aggrieved retiree
