Milerock and Rockers collide, Winners look to get past Ward Panthers
Tonight the defending champions Winners Connection are eyeing their third straight Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) GT Beer football championship, but they will find in their way the Amelia’s Ward Panthers, while in the first game of a double header the recent Petra Organisation champions Milerock are to battle Net Rockers in what would be a grudge match at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
In keeping with the year-end extravaganza that football brings to this town of Linden, fans will in traditional style make their way to see the possible outcome of the matches, starting with the first game at 6.30pm when Milerock are to meet Net Rockers. Milerock at present are in good form and their forward line will see the young guns in Clarence ‘Shark’ Huggins and Kester Randolph and the steadying midfield being led out together by Ron Fiedtkou, while they have a sturdy line at the back. The Rockers will see how best they can to get past this Milerock.
Like the Milerock squad, the Rockers have placed emphasis on youth development and the skill level of the players in this game will be tested to the hilt. The strike line for the Rockers will be laced with young Shane Luckie, who has dominated at the youth level, Colrick Beckles and with Denzil Pryce will be the players to watch. Scheming for the Rockers will be Orande Wills, while Jermain Fordyce and Omeion Wills are the principal defenders.
In the night cap encounter, once again the team to watch will be the defending champions Winners Connection who seems to have a hold of what it takes to be winners.
This Winners Connection team has up front their leading scorer over the years Rawle ‘Boney’ Gittens and the impressive Marmalaque Davidson, just out of being a champion school level scorer.
They will be joined by Carlos Blackman who has also been in good scoring form and with the dependable Wayne Bethune holding the defence together they can fancy themselves being victorious against the Panthers.
However, the Panthers have been impressive so far and after cruising into the quarter finals and look eligible to reach the semifinals.
The Panthers will count on their form players like Jevon Babb and Ray Bobbsemple on the striking line, while their back line has Kevin Plowell and Marlon Simon among the key players.
