Noise nuisance at Supenaam market
Vendors operating in the Supenaam market and who on a daily basis are bombarded by the loud sound of continuous music emanating from a stall holder are calling on the relevant authorities to intervene.
The vendors agitated by the vendor’s inconsiderate behaviour have described the daily operations in the market to that of a “rum shop”.
Affected vendors said that despite complaints made to the local NDC’s, the police and even to the vendor himself, no firm action have been taken against the vendor in question. Vendors are maintaining that stronger actions should be taken against the vendor since the loud noise is affecting them terribly.
Supenaam market
One vendor said that he is fed up with the noise. He said whenever the police receive a complaint about the noise they would visit and after their backs are turned, the vendor would usually turn up back his music.
“This is not a market; it’s a rum shop.”
Winston Gravesande, who owns and operates an Internet café, says that he finds it difficult to operate in a market that is polluted by noise. Mr. Gravesande explained that it is most difficult whenever his customers have to make a foreign call.
He said the noise is a turnoff for his business. He is asking the authorities to intervene since a market should operate as a market and not as a “rum shop.”
