A man was stabbed to death on Christmas Day during an altercation with an acquaintance at James Street, Albouystown.
The incident occurred around 15:00 hrs and resulted in the death of Owen Frederick, also called “Fluffie”.
Frederick was stabbed to the neck and chest. He was pronounced dead at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
His attacker, 54-year-old Mark Trevor, also called “Baby Face” of Curtis Street, Albouystown, has been arrested and is assisting with the investigation.
The suspect and victim were “junkies” in the area and did odd jobs for a living. Residents in James Street knew very little of the duo and their family history.
Kaieteur News was told that the two men had an argument somewhere in James Street and it later led to a scuffle.
Frederick, who is from Berbice, was seen running away while the suspect was chasing him with a knife.
An eyewitness to the stabbing told this newspaper yesterday that she saw a bloody Frederick running for his life.
His attacker caught up with him when he reportedly collapsed in front of a shop.
“De man come and stab him straight to the neck and then he (Trevor) walk away like a hero,” the eyewitness said.
Frederick was rushed to the hospital and Mark Trevor was subsequently arrested.
