Dear Editor
It continues and it is time that those in authority act. Whoever is found guilty must be penalized or we will not rise. The reporters and editors of the Guyana Times newspaper should be scolded. On Sunday, December 20, 2015, the newspaper carried a headline, “Jagdeo reiterates call for unity and development”. The aim of the article seemed to be: to reiterate that “race” (the exact word used) is an issue in Guyana because of the present administration. I am truly appalled at the continuity of ethnically divisive overtones in newspaper articles. The reporter quoted Mr. Jagdeo to the “T” and the editor saw it fit to publish the article as it was. In this modern age, I think the word “race” should only be used when in association with the word track (race-track).
I can call the names of those who continue to portray ethnic favouritism. They appear in many newspapers that condone this practice. I hope that these newspapers do not surpass 28 years. Therefore, to Mr. Jagdeo and the reporters and editors of the Guyana Times newspaper I say, unity and development will come only when you see pass the straightness of my hair (our only difference, as we are all coated with melanin) and recognize that disunity and un/non-development (as you suggest) continues today because of you. Forget the beginning, you are the voices that continue to separate Guyanese.
