Scramblers were crowned champions of the Orin Joseph Memorial dominoes
competition when the final was contested on Monday night at Gaulding Place, South Ruimveldt.
Both Scramblers and Rage were tied on 76 games each, but the former prevailed on more sixes. Phantom finished third on 66 games.
Dane Venture made the maximum 18 games for the winners, while Hilton Small got 17. Winston Stephens and Ron Callendar made 17 and 16 games apiece for the runner up team, while Orin Favourite scored 14 and Huey Gordon 13 for Phantom.
Rage won the semi final encounter with 74 games, while Phantom placed second on 70 and C Point third on 67.
Rage leading players were Lyall Gittens and Callendar with 17 and 15 games in that order. Rawl Cameron marked 17 and Keith Solomon 15 for Phantom, while Colin Mc Ewan and Paul Wallace got 16 apiece for C Point.
Scramblers pocketed a trophy and $150,000, Rage a trophy and $75,000 and Phantom a trophy and $35,000.
The competition was sponsored by president of the Georgetown Dominoes Association Faye Joseph in memory of her late husband and former head of the GDA Orin Joseph. A minute silence was observed before the final.
Oshantti Joseph, daughter of the late Orin Joseph congratulated the winners and thanked the teams for participating, while Faye Joseph said the GDA had an excellent year. She informed that they have secured a sponsorship from the Guyana Beverage Company Inc and that tournament will be played in February 2016, and thanked the company for their input.
Meanwhile, Mark Wiltshire and Prem Persaud will be hosting a pre-Christmas team and King dominoes competition tomorrow at Metal shop, Leonora, West Coast Demerara. Action gets underway at 14:00 hrs and entrance fee for the team tournament is $15,000 and King dominoes is $1,000 per player.
