Dear Sports Editor,
My previous letter captioned ‘My thoughts on the AAG’s role at Nationals’ was indeed spurred by Mr. Jefford’s article, however careful reading would see my intention at creating a culture of inclusiveness while giving my thoughts as to how the system may be improved. My interest is in inclusion and advancement not exclusion/division and stagnation.
I do not have the time or space to address the myriad of logical fallacies presented in his letter to the Sports Editor captioned ‘Fraser flopped in understanding my analysis’, however, the attacks on persons’ characters and careers instead of conversing about ideas and facts is simply unbecoming of a professional in sports administration. Why indulge in divisive tactics?
As regards the themes of the article in question a) that the AAG is failing to implement post-Nationals programmes and b) the misinformation of a Minister to advocate for the “take over” of Nationals.
With regards the first theme, I gave my thoughts as to why the AAG may be failing to implement post-Nationals programmes and highlighted an inclusive stakeholder-driven plan for the development of Nationals which would have made the linking of ‘Nationals’ to post-Nationals programmes much more seamless and systematic. Unfortunately, this wide-ranging plan was not implemented and of course many of the contributing agencies felt that the months of work was laid to waste. It meant that the voices of the various stakeholders were stifled and much needed advancement was discarded.
Regarding the second theme, I have never had the privilege of meeting or speaking with the Honourable Minister of Public Health, George Norton. I, therefore, could not be the man sought.
As it relates to the unbecoming statements made, I would like to posit that I have not been a member of the Management Committee (MC) for the last three years. This year, I was approached to serve as Secretary but declined the position. As a Public Servant, I was required to lend support to my Unit in executing the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. I so did.
Mr. Editor, many of the ideas and issues highlighted in my letter remain unattended. The only issue addressed was that of the discrepancy relating to particular lanes of the track. The facts are that the trumeter (equipment used to measure distance) used to re-measure the track was provided by my Department and was corrected on the second day. We may agree that this should not have happened.
If I am being accused of having a mischievous nature based on my track record of inclusion in planning, planning in advance and expecting the best outcomes from my work: THEN MISCHIEVEOUS I AM!
Yours in Sport,
Nicholas Fraser
