-Beacon vs. Flamingo clash seems evenly matched
Another double header is planned for today when the Annual Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Banks Beer Knockout Cup resumes, at the Georgetown Football Club ground, North Road.
In the first encounter, Beacon FC and Flamingo FC square off at 19:00 hrs and this will be followed by the feature clash between Sunburst Camptown FC and Northern Rangers FC at 21:00 hrs.
In the feature game, while Sunburst Camptown should start as favourites to advance, they will know that Northern Rangers are an improving side laden with a number of experienced players such as Captain Nigel Denny, his deputy Donal McKenzie, Sherwyn Vincent, Omali Nassy, Orendelle Squires and Gavin Bobb.
Vincent, a former Alpha United standout is in his twilight years in terms of his career, but his guile and experience could make it a long night for the more established Sunburst Camptown unit.
When you add the services of Nassy, Denny, McKenzie and Squires then the team’s potency makes it a dangerous opposition for Sunburst Camptown.
Sunburst Camptown on the other hand is no pushover and just like their opponent is loaded with players of a high calibre.
The wily and experienced Troy Prescod will no doubt be pulling the strings from mid-field, while Jahal Greaves, Rishawn Sandiford are the designated marksmen.
Wendell St. Hill is another player whose knowledge and skill will be depended on to pull off a victory.
The two teams are equally balanced and fans could expect a scorching affair as they go head to head for a plce in the next round.
The match before that should be interesting enough to wet the appetites of the fans as they both look to advance further
Beacon has been playing a solid brand of football and the news emanating from the camp seems to suggest that they have been involved in intense training so despite the lack of football, fans should expect a solid performance.Troy Lambert, Colin McNichols, Rawle Prince, Desmond Cottam, Trilton Luke and Keon Douglas are the main threat and should be involved in any plan for victory.
On the other hand, Flamingo’s chances of a win will rest on the performances of players such as Sheldon Gurrick, Shem Porter, Leon Yaw, Dwayne Layne and Akeem Roberts.
The winning team is set to receive $2million dollars and the championship trophy, while the second, third and fourth place finishers take home $1million, $500,000 and $250,000 respectively along with trophies.
Meanwhile, action in the Cup continues on Sunday with another double header at No.5 ground, West Berbice.
Beginning at 19:00 hrs, NA United tackle Guyana Police Force and this encounter will be followed by the clash between Rosignol United Fc vs Santos FC.
Both games promise to be sizzlers.
