Half Centuries by Ramesh Thakur and Chandrika Persaud coupled by a four-wicket
haul by Mahase Persaud handed host Wales a 76-run victory over Saw Pit Sports Club as they captured the R. Thakur and Sons Lumber Yard T20 title on Sunday.
Skipper Thakur and Persaud set the foundation for the challenging total with sensible batting as they shared in an opening stand of 113 to lead Wales to a challenging 175-6, batting first. Thakur struck eight fours off 55 balls in a top score of 54, while Persaud who faced 57 balls hit seven fours and one six in his 53.
After they were separated Saw Pit SC picked up a few quick wickets to restrict Wales somewhat; Mahase Persaud and Omesh Danram made 16 and 13 respectively as Munesh Persaud claimed 3-21.
In reply, Imran Khan and A. Rameshwar added 23 for the first wicket before the latter was dismissed for eight.
Apart from Khan who scored 23, the rest of the batting struggled against some tidy bowling by Wales as they slipped to 67-5. Only Zaheer Sheriff of the remaining batsmen made it into double figures with 16 as Saw Pit were sent packing for 99 in 15.5 overs. Mahase Persaud captured 4-19 off four overs, while Naresh Persaud claimed 2-12. Thakur was named man-of-the-match.
