including means of access for physically disabled students.
Most schools across the country, related the Minister, do not have facilities for these children and this is something that needs to be looked at.
He said that there is very little that can be done for schools which already exist but despite this, “The (Ministry) will see what has to be done with regard to the physical structure.
The Minister also commented on such facilities being implemented at the University of Guyana. He said that while he does not have the same control over the University as he does in schools, it is something he can argue for.
“I don’t have control over the University as we do in schools. The University is run by the University Council on which the government has representatives, but I can definitely argue for it,” said Roopnaraine.
He also acknowledged his Ministry’s limitations with regard to quality educational opportunities for the nation’s children regardless of their physical and mental capacity and applauded the efforts of those who fill this critical gap.
“We may not be able to always guarantee that all boats rise equally” Roopnarine said, “but we must strive to ensure that all boats do rise.”
