The Kennard Memorial Turf Club at Bush Lot Farm in Corentyne Berbice is the place to be for Turfites on Boxing Day when the Club host what is touted to the biggest Horse Racing event for the year.
Yesterday Metro’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Avia Marie Lindie presented President of the Club Justice Cecil Kennard with the Feature Event Trophy and the $1 Million first prize and fourth prize of $125,000. The presentation was done at Metro’s Cooperate Office on Quamina Street in Georgetown.
Justice Kennard thanked Metro for its continued support of the event and told the media that sponsorship was crucial to the success of any sporting event, adding the Metro has been the sponsor of the Feature race for a decade now.
Kennard informed that Ron Ramnaryan, the Company President of Metro is the son of the late Deo Kheraj, who was the first President of the Turf Club and severed in that capacity for several years before he died overseas.
Kennard disclosed that the Berbice Bridge Company Inc has facilitated free passage for all Vehicles transporting Horses on that day which are participating at the meet.
“We have never been turned away whenever we seek support from Metro,” Kennard said.
Seven races are carded for the day with the winner of the Feature event for C & Lower over one mile collecting $1Million and a trophy. The Second place finisher takes home $500,000, the third placed $250,000 and the fourth position $125,000. Entrance fee for this race is $105,000.
Owners must pay at least $5000 for each Horse at the time of entry. If not paid the Horses’ name would not appear on the official Programme and their Horses will not be permitted to run.
Races are being run under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority and for further information contact can be made with Justice Kennard on telephone number (623-7609, 225-4818 or 226-1399).
