In an effort to make their Christmas a little “jolly” for the festive season, Food For
The Poor (FFTP) Guyana Inc. yesterday donated supplies to victims of the devastating Rasville, Georgetown fire that left 42 residents homeless on December 2.
The residents received stoves, personal care items, mattresses, food stuff among other items.
The Non-Governmental Organization (NGO)’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Kent Vincent, handed over the items to the 14 families at its headquarters in Festival City, Georgetown.
He said that the NGO, which is known for helping those in need, will assist all the victims as much as possible. “As more items come in, we will try to assist with furniture and other items. What we have in the warehouse is what we are giving now.”
The CEO promised to help the victims more in the New Year.
One of the victims from the fire, Candace Waldron, thanked the NGO for the assistance. She said that any form of donation at this time is welcome.
The woman said that only a week before the fire; she had purchased a washer and dryer for the holiday.
“My kids did well in school but I can’t give them anything this Christmas even though they deserve it,” a devastated Waldron said.
Fire destroyed a Lot 44-46 Apartment Complex, which housed 14 families earlier this month. The blaze started in the bottom flat apartment that was occupied by a tenant. She was out at the time and lost everything as did everyone else.
