The eagerly awaited Guyana Cup re-match one day horserace meet organized by the Jumbo Jet racing stable in collaboration with the Port Mourant Turf Club came off with a bang despite the inclement weather.
Little of the Gopaul Singh stable with Jockey Colin Ross winning a close race from De Gump in the JI and lower event.
It was not the best day for horseracing as the rain fell heavily earlier in the day. However, the gelding Plum Plum of the late Mohamed “Nankoo” Shariff racing stable made sure that his memory will live on when it whipped the field to take the feature C class event.
The animal imported about a year ago and running as a D class horse with Jockey Colin Ross riding on his first wedding anniversary took the lead in the 1500M race as the animals took the straight for home.
With pre race favourite CP Got Even make a late surge for the leaders it was not enough as Plum Plum had enough to cross the line comfortably and take the $1.2M winning money and trophy. CP came through with a rush to take second ahead of Keep On Swinging and Lady Budapest.
The other winners were in the E class event saw Strom Bird of the Inshan Bacchus stable storming to victory. The winner of the H2 and Two year old event was Red Rocket of the Jumbo Jet stable. The Girl Is Mine won the two year old Guyana Bred event. Little ran away with the J1 and lower race, while Massaquita Dr took the K and lower race.
