At the age of 71, agriculturalist Neil Persaud still yearns to pass on his vast knowledge to his country.
Persaud, known as ‘Mannie’ says he is versed in practically all aspects of agriculture and his input would be phenomenal, and, once given the opportunity, will make a worthwhile contribution.
“I would show Guyanese what I can do, today all I am thinking of is to offer my services to anybody.”
The Richmond, Essequibo resident is also a livestock expert and still practices in this field.
He received training from the National Agricultural Research Institute) (NARI), the Guyana School of Agriculture (GSA), Letter T Estate and the Livestock Development Company (LIDCO).
He believes that his knowledge is a blessing from God.
Persaud even rubbed shoulders with former Presidents, Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham and Hugh Desmond Hoyte. He lauded the late Guyanese leaders who had utilized his services and he’s now offering his services to the new government.
Persaud says he received most of his early training from Dr. Moses Ramnarine and his late grandfather who was an immigrant from India. Sharing some of his experiences, Persaud recalled delivering a blind calf and another calf which was experiencing difficulties during delivery.
His most fascinating experience, however, was the time when he said he performed artificial insemination on a heifer.
Persaud says he wants regional and government officials to take up the challenge in utilizing his service, which he argues can make a difference in agriculture and cattle rearing.
Persaud lives at Richmond Housing Scheme and spends his time rearing his cattle.
