Defending champions Federal Winners Connection led by a hat-trick of goals from their lanky forward Marmalaque Davidson secured 3-0 victory over Blueberry Hill, while Milerock came from a goal down to brush aside
Eagles United as the Upper Demerara Football Association GT Beer Christmas knockout football tournament continued on Friday night at the Mackenzie sports Club ground.
The first game was between Milerock, who were set back by an early goal when there defenders were caught motionless and Eagles’ Kwesi Quintyn made them pay as he slid through to place the ball with a well-timed shot which scored in the 57th minute.
However, the Petra Organisation champions regrouped early enough to cancel that advantage for the Eagles team and as they were able to come forward as the early shock did not deter their efforts. They were rewarded in the 37th minute as a cross from Ron Fiedtkou at midfield reached Clarence Huggins who rounded his marker and eluded him to score with a well-placed shot in the 39th minute of play. The first half there would end with a 1-1 score line.
Milerock had by then gathered their momentum together and would go after their opponents who failed to respond in kind and Milerock would gain the lead as Huggins was fouled in the box, and Jermain Granderson would take the penalty to score in the 81st minute for the Milerock 2-1 lead. The Milerock unit would then close out the contest when a ball was sent cross field for the travelling Kester Randolph to evade his defenders and dart through to score for a Milerock 3-1 winning score.
Tonight the GT Beer championships will continue with two more matches. The first at 6:30pm is between Hi Stars and Net Rockers and at 8:15pm Amelia’s Ward Panthers and Botafago face off.
