After an absence of several years, the Guyana Police Force has reintroduced its bicycle patrol in its diversifying efforts to tackle crime.
The most recent bicycle patrol was launched on the West Demerara, where new
housing communities have been stretching the resources of the police in the Division.
According to Divisional Commander Stephen Mansell, the bike patrol will serve well in a number of communities where vehicular travel is laborious.
“It’s another form of policing. The bicycles will go where our vehicle cannot go and will allow us to be more interactive with the citizens,” Commander Mansell explained.
He said that the ranks will be patrolling mainly in pairs between 07:00 hours and 19:00 hours, and will be operating out of La Grange Police Station.
They will be primarily deployed to effect arrests and give feedback to the more equipped patrols when necessary.
