A vendor on Friday made his first appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts charged for assault.
Yusuf Mohamed, 47, a vendor who resides at 41 William Street, Kitty, pleaded not guilty to the charge which read that on December 5 in the vicinity of Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Randy Singh.
Mohamed was then placed on $50,000 bail, which was reduced to $20,000 after his several pleas. The Magistrate then ordered him to return to Court on January 12, 2016.
The Court heard that on the day in question, the two men were imbibing alcohol when an argument arose. This led to a physical altercation, during which Mohamed dealt Singh several lashes and a slap. As a result of this, Singh received lacerations to his right ear and the right side of his forehead.
Mohamed was also ordered not to go within 50 feet of the Singh for the duration of the Court matter.
