Essequibo Boxing Gym copped seven victories to win the overall title of the second edition of the Pepsi/Michael Parris U16 championship which was contested on Sunday at the Andrew Lewis Gym.
Forgotton Youth Foundation placed second with four wins.
Delroy Elcock and Aquancy Wright both of Essequibo turned in outstanding performances to win their respective categories. Elock defeated Junior Hyman of Essequibo in the 95-99 division, while Wright overcame Deron Williams in the 65-69.
Joshua Corbin of Karel Gym beat Brian Harris of Forgotton Youth Foundation (FYF) gym in the 140-147 segment, while Christopher Moore of Essequibo took the 125-132 title by beating Deshon Elcock also of Essequibo.
The 120-124 crown was taken by Shumar Bumbury of FYF who overcame Joel Allicock of Pocket Rocket gym, Essequibo’s Shaquel Wright got the better of Mohammad Bacchus of Karel gym, Junior Hassan of Essequibo beat Omar Pollard of Pocket Rocket in the 95-99, Shakiem Jones of FYF thumped Deandra Linton of Harpy Eagle Kevon Mullings beat Hermon Whyte in the 90-94 while Orin Hutson of FYF defeated Joseph Semple of Harpy Eagle in the 80-84.
The 70-74 division was taken by Travis Imvervary of FYF who overcame Akeem Alli of Harpy Eagle. Deron Williams overpowered Dwayne Baptiste of FYF to claim the 65-69 crown and Jamie Kelman of FYF beat Seon Graham the youngest boxer in the tournament at age nine also of FYF in the 60-64 division.
