Two days earlier, he was awarded the second Best Cop for the Guyana Police Force. On Friday, he was named the Best Cop for ‘A’ Division at an annual Christmas luncheon and award ceremony at the Brickdam Police Station.
Corporal Derwin Eastman, who joined the Pollice Force in 2012, was commended for his exemplary work in the force.
Throughout the year, Eastman was responsible for the arrest of nine persons who were subsequently charged for murder.
Two persons were charged for attempted murder; five for possession of arms and ammunition; 31 persons were arrested for possession of narcotics, 18 of whom were charged.
The Best Cop also arrested 30 persons for robbery under arms, 24 of whom were convicted.
He was the rank responsible for solving the case involving the Guyana Geology and Mines Commissions (GGMC) engineer, Trevor Abrams, who was executed on February 27, last, at Little Diamond, East Bank Demerara (EBD). Two persons were charged.
The C‘orporal was also responsible for the arrest of Dellon Henry, called ‘Nasty Man.’ He was charged for the execution-style killing of 36-year-old Dexter Griffith, who was killed in ‘Warlock’ on September 29, last.

Corporal last year at the Brickdam luncheon by Commissioner of Police, Seelall Persaud,
Eastman later said that he was overwhelmed. He said that it was a joyous occasion for him and his family.
In 2013, he was the Best Cop and last year, he was the runner-up Best Cop for his division.
Along with a trophy, Eastman was given a round trip to Aruba/Curacao; a trip for two to Arrowpoint Nature Resort and a dinner for two at Duke Lodge, compliments of Roraima Airways and Insel Air.
He was also given prizes from Cellpoint and Gizmos and Gadgets.
Walking away with the second Best Cop award for ‘A’ Division was Constable George, a traffic rank.
George received a Smart TV from Courts, a trip to Kaieteur Falls from Wilderness Explorers and Dinner for two at Cara Lodge along with other prizes from businesses.
Commander for ‘A’ Division, Clifton Hicken, said that all the ranks would have worked tirelessly to serve and protect all citizens.
He noted that those who received awards would have performed exemplary. He said that the awards ceremony would serve as a motivation to other ranks.
