Students of Mackenzie High School and friends of the late Denielson Rose staged a protest in Linden on Thursday. They gathered in front of the Director of Public Prosecution’s Chambers calling for justice.
Denielson Rose was struck down by a Lance Corporal of the Guyana Police Force, Marlon ‘Brando’ Washington, who reportedly didn’t stop to render assistance. Since October 24, Rose’s family was being given the royal run around.
Washington appeared in the Mackenzie Magistrate’s Court yesterday and was placed on $800,000 bail.
According to political activist, Mark Benschop, who spoke with the Crime Chief, the DPP returned the file to the Mackenzie Police Station since December 2- more than two weeks ago.
Benschop said he then requested a meeting with someone at the DPP chambers, where an official confirmed that the police received advice to charge the policeman with five counts.
The charges are causing death by dangerous driving; failure to stop at the scene of an accident; failure to render assistance to a person injured in an accident; driving while breath alcohol limit exceeds the prescribed limit; and use of an uninsured motor vehicle.
Yesterday the printout slips reflecting the results of the breathalyzer tests were not in the file. The DPP has asked that they be attached. Further she recommended that Marlon Washington driver’s licence be suspended pending the outcome of this matter.
Rose’s mother said all she wants is justice for her son. Residents in Linden are crying with the mother and asking the Commander of Linden to let justice prevail.
