The 5th Edition of the Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Banks Beer Knockout Cup resumes today with a double header, at the No. #5 ground in Berbice.
In the feature game, Cougars FC collide with Rosignol United from 21:00hrs, but before that, Georgetown-based Blackwater FC tackle New Amsterdam United from 19:00 hrs.
Cougars will look to the services of the experience of Adrian Best and Stephon DeFlorimonte to marshal their backline and snuff out the offensive forays of Rosignol United.
In attack, their chances of scoring will depend on the combination of Carlos Leach, Ron Wilson and Randel Hazel.
Head Coach of Cougars Phillip Carrington in an invited comment said, “Football has been inactive for the whole year at the association level, it has mostly been at the invitational level and it depends on if you are invited.”
“Now with this tournament, we have to try our best. Fitness will be our problem, but with the little fitness we have, we have to go out there and try our best. We can play good football, we just have to perform and as the coach, I have to try my best to motivate them.”
Rosignol United backline will be spearheaded by Randy Arrindell and Orwin Johnson, while their pursuit of victory will rest on the feet of Mark Wronge, Cornel Taylor, Oswin Carmichael and Shamar Arrindell.
The opening game is a straight fight between Georgetown and Berbice and because bragging rights is at stake, the game is worth watching with the Berbicians expected to have huge home support.
New Amsterdam United’s search for a win will be spearheaded by brothersAdrian and Lenardo Adams, while Blackwater will be led by Joshua Fiffie, Charles Josiah, Junior Thomas and Akeem George.
The winning team is set to receive $2million dollars and the championship trophy, while the second, third and fourth place finishers take home $1million, $500,000 and $250,000 respectively along with trophies.
