Former West Indies Captain Ramnaresh Sarwan fans will now be afforded the opportunity to see the gifted
35-year-old once more in action as the right-hander who led Guyana to the inaugural Stanford T20 title in Antigua in 2006 has confirmed his participation in the Legacy and 007 Promotions’ ‘Cricket for Unity’ match on January 30 under lights at the Providence Stadium.
The event is being held in collaboration with corporate sponsors and support from the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) and the Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GSCA); the match has also been approved by the WICB.
According to PRO of the event Sean Devers, Sarwan has agreed to Captain one of the teams and will reunite with some of his West Indies teammates in a game which is expected have all the fanfare of an International T20 game.
The event should be a memorable night for fans who are expected to flock the Stadium to get a rare chance of seeing such a collection of top class players assembled at one venue in Guyana.
“I will play! The match is not until January 30th so I have some time to get some practice” Sarwan said.
Keiron Pollard, Riyad Emrit and Sarwan are the latest big name players to confirm their participation in the eagerly anticipated showdown which will be preceded by softball cricket from the top softball teams in the country in both the male and female categories in addition a fun day for the Children which starts at 10:00hrs.
Apart from Sarwan, Pollard and Emrit, Lindl Simmons, Dwayne Smith, Darren Sammy, Andre Russell, Krismar Santokie and Nick Pooran have all confirmed their participation. Leon Johnson, Rajendra Chandrika, Chris Barnwell, Jonathon Foo, Veerasammy Permaul, Devendra Bishoo, Anthony Bramble, Steven Jacobs, Raymond Reifer, Jevon Searles and Shiv Chanderpaul could be names featuring in the match which will see the winning team collecting G$1million and the President’s Trophy. The Man-of-the-Match pockets G$100,000. Tickets will go on sale by the first half of January.
