The University of Guyana (UG) hosted its Annual Sports Award for the year
Recipients of medals and trophies for outstanding performances during the calendar year 2014-15 of the University of Guyana pose with their hardware for a photo op following the completion of the awards ceremony last Friday.
2014/2015 Friday last, at the institution’s Campus, Turkeyen.
Among those present at the occasion was Sports Co-ordinator of UG Lavern Fraser, who acted as the moderator for the evening, while the guest speaker was Attorney-at-Law Thandi McAllister.
According to a release from the University, the Sports disciplines that were awarded were Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Domino and Rugby.
Students were also awarded for outstanding performances at international events, notably the rugby team for winning the Calabash Trophy at the Carib/Tobago Sevens tournament in Tobago December 2014.
Emanuel Archibald and Akeem Kanhai were awarded for their contribution in basketball at the Universities Games in Panama in August.
Champion male and female athletes were Cleveland Forde and Kezia Bess.
Emanuel Archibald and Kezia Bess were honored for outstanding performance in athletics internationally.
Lancelot Adonis and Phibian Joseph were recognised for their contribution in rugby at the international level.
