His Excellency, President David Granger has accepted an invitation from Guyana’s leading youth and
sports organisation to become its fifth Honorary Patron from January, 2016. The Club’s current Patron Ms. Beverly Harper’s tenure as Patron officially ends on the 31st December, 2015, after serving a full five year term.
President Granger would be following in the footsteps of his predecessors, the late Hugh Desmond Hoyte, Peter Ramsaroop, Mrs. June Mendes and Ms. Beverly Harper and would serve until December 2020.
As Patron of Guyana’s most dynamic youth and sports organisation, President Granger would serve as its honorary head; a role model to members, an inspiration to members in their pursuit of a successful career in education and sports and be the public image of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club.
The President would also be expected to provide Patron’s remarks for all Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club magazines and other publications and be the main guest at important club events like its annual awards ceremony.
In a press release, club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster said that the Management and Members of the club is delighted at the President’s acceptance of becoming its Patron. The club, Foster stated was privilege in the past of having hard working patrons who functioned beyond the call of duty to assist the club in fulfilling its mandate to serve humanity.
Foster expressed confidence that President Granger would follow in their footsteps. The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club apart from being one of Guyana’s leading cricket teams undertakes a record 200-300 programmes/activities annually.
Foster further informed that they have completed a total of 293 programmes/activities in 2015 as part of its Silver Jubilee anniversary celebration and by the end of this month, would easily surpass the 300 mark.
The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club in 2016 would be placing special emphasis on its internal cricket development programme, assistance to single parent households, expansion of its highly successfully “Say No to Drugs, Suicide and Crime and Say Yes to Education and Sports and would also undertake major restoration work on its head office in an effort to improve its services to the general public.
President Granger would be sworn into the Patron’s position early in the New Year when a large delegation from the club visits the Head of State in Georgetown.
