The bodies of the two men, who went missing after their boats collided last Saturday
evening, have been found.
A police source revealed that the bodies of Trevor Persaud and Roy Roopnarine, both of Itabali were fished out of the river sometime around 7:00 am yesterday in the vicinity of Bamford Point, Mazaruni.
Sole survivor, Cleon Fortune, also of Itabali suffered injuries and was treated at the Bartica Hospital. He was later discharged and taken into police custody.
He was later placed on $100,000 station bail and is assisting with investigations. Around 19:45 hours Saturday, Persaud and Fortune were heading from Bartica while Roopnarine was heading in the opposite direction when tragedy struck.
A police source recently disclosed that Persaud’s boat was supposedly on the wrong side of the river resulting in his boat colliding with Roopnarine’s boat. The men were then catapulted into the river. Fortune was rescued after a boat operator rushed to the location upon hearing the impact. Divers joined the search later on Sunday.
Post mortem examinations are scheduled to be conducted on the bodies.
