Betsy Ground and Kendall’s Union ‘A’ to vie for third place
A magnificent hundred by the prolific Videsh Singh led Canje Pathfinders to a massive win against Kendall’s Union ‘A’ in their semi final match played at the Cumberland Ground in Canje. Batting first after being inserted, Canje Pathfinders lost S. Badal early for 3 with the score on 23. I. Harrinandan then joined Singh but did not last long either, bowled by R. Seecharran for 1.
The former Young Warrior first division cricketer, Singh found a good partner in A. Arjune and together they blasted the bowling to all parts of the ground putting on 117 for the third wicket. Arjune went for a well played 53 caught off Seecharran. Singh continued the onslaught ending on 126 not out consisting 8×4 and 10×6 with his team ending on 222 for 4 off their allotted 20 overs. Seecharran and D. Baker took two wickets a piece.
Kendall’s Union made a spirited start but lost their way ending on 156 all out off 19 overs. D. Baker top scored with 29 and got support from E. Garnett with 27. The chief wreckers were K. Dipoo with 4 for 27 and W. Sobhai 3 for 15.
In the second semi final played on the same day at the same venue, Betsy Ground Triple Star won the toss and batted first under brilliant sunshine. They made a competitive 154 for 9 off their allotted 20 overs. Kishan Sobhai top scored with 35 and was supported by T. Ramdat with 23 and Allan Gopal 20. Former national youth player Balram Samaroo took 3 for 17 and former national senior all rounder Hubern Evans 2 for 12. The home team in reply cruised to a 7 wicket win ending on 155 for 3 off 18.3 overs. Opener Mortimer Fraser made 63, Rudolph Baker 24 and Samaroo 23 not out.
The final will be contested between Young Warriors Cricket Club and Canje Pathfinders and will be preceded by the third playoff between Kendall’s Union ‘A’ and Betsy Ground at the Cumberland ground in East Canje, later in the month. A well stocked bar and musical entertainment will form part of the off field entertainment.
