Lower Corentyne/New Amsterdam Canje, East Coast Demerara, Upper Corentyne and Georgetown all
recorded victories when the Cricket Guyana Inc (CGI) local franchise league 50-over tournament continued yesterday.
An incisive spell of fast bowling from Raun Johnson helped Lower Corentyne/New Amsterdam Canje to an eight-wicket victory over West Demerara at Everest. NA Canje decision to insert their opponents paid dividends when Johnson removed Yetesh Dhanpaul (00) and Chandrika Persaud (00) to leave West Demerara at 4-2. Johnson who bowled with pace and aggression picked up a few more quick wickets as West Demerara slipped into further trouble at 14-6; Richie Looknauth 19 not out, Safraz Esau 18 and Mahendra Dhanpaul 10 propped up the total somewhat before they were sent packing for 81 in 33.1 overs. Johnson finished with 5-24, Devon Clements 2-14 and Romario Shepherd 2-17.
Joemal La Fleur then stroked an unbeaten 52 aided with five fours and two sixes to guide NA Canje to 82-2 in 10.3 overs in reply. Waheid Edwards made 17; Looknauth claimed 2-27.
At Enmore, East Coast Demerara thumped Essequibo by seven wickets. Essequibo were made to ruin their decision to bat after Paul Wintz removed Kevon Boodie (06), Ricardo Peters (00) and Royan Fredericks (01), reducing them to 10-3 on a difficult pitch. Only Ricardo Adams with 13 reached double figures as Essequibo were skittled for 56 in 22 overs. Amir Khan snared 4-6 and Wintz 3-15.
Ricardo Adams removed openers Brian Sattaur (04) and Viswanauth Ramlakhan (05) while Fredericks accounted for Chanderpaul Hemraj (12) at 38-3, however Steve Ramdass (19*) and Kamesh Yadram (06*)
saw their team home as they finished on 57-3 in 20.3 overs.
At Port Mourant, Upper Corentyne trounced East Bank Demerara by 100 runs. Upper Corentyne batted first and scored 199 all out in 46 overs. Jonathan Foo cracked 54, Jason Sinclair 48, Clinton Pestano 34 and Rajiv Ivan 21. Leg Spinner Ershad Ali grabbed 5-43 and Quincy Grimmond 3-21. East Bank were bowled out for 99 in 26.2 overs in response. Ali made 24 and Colin Benn 23. Pestano bagged 5-34, Shawn Pereira 2-12 and Keon Sinclair 2-27.
At Bush Lot, Georgetown beat West Berbice by three wickets. West Berbice took first strike and managed 136-9 off their reduced 25 overs due to rain. Brentnol Woolford scored 52; Devon Lord claimed 2-21 and Andre Stoll 2-31. Georgetown responded with 138-7 in 24.1 overs. Kellon Carmichael struck 45, David Dick 27 and Shemroy Barrington 20. Kevin Jawahir picked up 5-22.
