Woman sells boyfriend’s chain after he refuses to give her money

A typist accused of selling her boyfriend’s gold chain because he had refused to give her money, was yesterday released on bail, after a charge of simple larceny was read to her by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Appearing in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts was Ashmalie Alves, 22, of East Bank Essequibo. She is accused of stealing a $400,000 gold chain belonging to Tyson Collins on December 5, at South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
Alves denied the charge and was granted bail to the tune of $10,000.
According to Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones, the defendant and the complainant shared a relationship and once lived together.
Jones related that on the date in question, Alves left the house with the chain without Collins’ permission.  He said that the woman subsequently sold the chain because of Collins’ unwillingness to give her money.
Alves will return to court on January 7.
