With less than two weeks away for the much anticipated Guyana Cup Re-Match horse race meet at the famous Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC), preparations are heating up. Nine races are on the card for the December 20 showdown with over $10M on offer for the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and Racing Stables / PMTC organised event.
Most of the stables across the country have indicated their intentions to be a part of the day’s activity and are expected to enter many horses for the event. However the stables are finalizing preparations and would prefer to wait closer to race day to make sure their animals are in top form.
According to the organizers, over 40 horses have been entered so far. The Jumbo Jet and Shariff Stables are expected to lead the entries with over 10 entries each with other stables such as Elcock, Jagdeo, Rising Sun, Singh, Bacchus, and Crawford also expected to make multiple entries.
The feature event will be for animals classified A1 and lower and is expected to see the best in the business compete for the whopping $1.2M winner’s prize from a sumptuous $3M package and trophy over 1800M.
Among those expected for this race are C.P Got Even, Princess She is not, Just Call Me Boss, Spit Fire, Jack in My Style, Bridal Stone Corner and Lady Budapest among others.
The other events on the day’s card are for; E1 and lower catering for two year old American bred maiden horses with the distance now 1000M. The first prize remains $800,000 and trophy.
In the three year old West Indies and Guyana bred event is a 1500M affair for a winning purse of $600,000 and trophy. The recently installed F3 and lower event will be a 1300M affair for $500,000 and trophy winner take.
The two year old event for West Indies Bred horses has a first prize tagged at $400,000 and trophy now over 1200M. The H1 and lower 1200M race has a winning pocket of $400,000 and trophy.
The newly added event for two year old horses will see the top runner taking home 300,000 and trophy over 1000M. The J class event is now for J3 and lower horses over 1000M for the winning pocket of $250,000 and trophy.
There is an event for K and lower horses running over a distance of 1000M for a winning purse of $150,000 and trophy. The top Jockey along with the runner-up, top stable and champion trainer will all be presented with trophies and other incentives compliments of the organizers.
Entries are expected to be closed on Saturday December 12.
The organisers have also have put together some interesting incentives for lucky patrons and participants. The event will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority.
