Wolf’s Warriors overcame Speed Boat by eight wickets to win the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc (GSCL Inc) organised annual Winston Murray Memorial 10/10 softball title on Sunday at Everest
Cricket Club.
Speed Boat batted first and scored 72-9. Wazir Hussain scored 28 as man of the match Steve Mohamed snared 3-8, Kelvin Olford 2-9, Azad Zaman 2-12 and Khemraj Samsundar 2-18. Wolf’s Warriors responded with 75-2 in 6.1 overs. Safraz Karim led with 32 not out while Azad Azeez made 23 and Amrit Rai 14; Singh and Hussain had one wicket each.
Speed Boat beat Mercenaries by seven wickets in their semi final match up. Mercenaries got to 92-7, batting first. Shazim Hussain took two wickets for Speed Boat who responded with 93-3 in seven overs. Anand Bharat hit 45 and Greg Singh 38.
Wolf’s Warriors got the better of Regal by 17 runs in their semi final game. Wolf’s Warriors managed 102-7, taking first knock. Ravindra Ramnauth scored 29 and Diaram Persaud 22. Fazal Rafiek captured 3-24. Regal were limited to 85-7 in reply. Ricky Sargeant struck 22; Narine Bailey had 3-9.
In the preliminary round, Speed Boat overcame Success by eight wickets. Success made 86
while Speed Boat replied with 87-2 in seven overs. Bharat stroked 47. Wolf’s Warriors got a walk over from Leguan.
Wolf’s Warriors received a trophy and $100,000 and Speed Boat a trophy and $50,000.
President of the GSCL Inc Ian John congratulated the winners while Mark Walkes a representative of People’s National Congress/Reform, lauded the GSCL Inc for a well organised tournament and thanked the participating teams.
Winston Murray was a former member of the PNC and also represented Leguan in first division cricket. (Zaheer Mohamed)
