Parika Defenders take Over-40 crown
Regal defeated Wolf’s Warriors by 18 runs to capture the DJ Stress open softball
title on Saturday night at Zeeburg, West Coast Demerara.
Regal posted a challenging 185-9 off their allocation of 20 overs, batting first in front of a large crowd. Opener Richard Latif got Regal innings off to a flier hitting two fours and four sixes before he was dismissed for 36. Fazal Rafiek scored a shot-filled 47 aided with three fours and a similar number of sixes while Sewchand Budhu made 20 (1×4,2×6) to prop up Regal’s batting. Wazim Hussain claimed 2-18, Narine Bailey 2-56 and Travis Drakes 2-59.
Wolf’s Warriors threatened but were limited to 167-7 in 20 overs in reply. Mohamed Karim struck one four and two sixes in a top score of 29 while Safraz Karim and Hussain got 26 each. Amrit Rai made 18 and Lincoln Leander 16 not out. Rohit Dutchin snared 2-22.
Parika Defenders overcame Savage by four runs to win the masters segment. Batting first, Parika Defenders scored 183-7 in 20 overs. Asif Ahmad stroked 67, R. Narine 35, Ramesh
Rambharose 31 and Kabish Baksh 17. Nadir Baksh took 3-41. Savage were restricted for 179-6 in 15 overs in reply. Dinesh (only name) scored 69 and Baksh 59. S. Alli, Rambharose and O. Chandlier had one wicket each.
Speed Boat beat Zeeburg Volcanoes by six wickets in their encounter. Zeeburg took first strike and made 151-6 in 12 overs. Khemraj Ramsundar hit 61, Vikesh Dhaniram 27 and Michael Matura 21; Imran Hamid took 2-23 and Anand Bharat 2-39. Speed Boat responded with 154-4 in 8.5 overs. Wazir Hussain led with 77 while Greg Singh and Cornelius Jaisingh made 22 and 12 not respectively. Klint La Cruz claimed 3-31. (Zaheer Mohamed)
