Dear Editor,
In an effort to promote religious tolerance and bring to an end religious intolerance in my community, I would have detailed a missive which was carried in your November 20, 2015 newspaper edition bearing the caption, “This type of religious intolerance in Guyana is dangerous.”
In that letter I would have detailed how the Wesleyan Church of Maria’s Pleasure, Wakenaam treated a 14 year old child all because she danced at the Meer Zorg Vishwa Jotir Mandir’s Diwali concert.
For clarity, the church’s executive members judged her by saying that what she did was wrong and then penalized her by putting a 6 week ban on her from active participation within the said Wesleyan Church.
Editor, the church’s action prompted me to read the Bible and in doing so I came across these words – JUDGE NOT AND YOU WILL NOT BE JUDGED FOR ALL MEN HAVE FALL SHORT OF THE GLORIES OF GOD. It therefore begs the question, is the doctrine or by-laws that guides the Wesleyan Churches in Guyana contradicting the holy words of God?
If God would have said that humans should not judge humans then how was it that Maria’s Pleasure Wesleyan Church permitted to judge that child and to add insult to injuries penalized her?
Notwithstanding the above, I met with the head of the Wesleyan Church some time back at his Brickdam office but from his schedule time did not permit a lengthy discourse.
I therefore am publicly requesting that he answers my simple question via this medium for the benefit of not only me but also for the benefit of the other arms of Christianity that do not agree with the Wesleyan’s actions, the Hindus and Muslims; In fact, for the benefit of the entire human race.
Also kindly justify your answer where necessary. Editor, should my question not be answered then I am only left to conclude that the Wesleyan Christians are not true Christians for their practice goes against the word of God – the Holy Bible.
