-join Sparta Boss, North Ruimveldt and Back Circle in semis
A capacity crowd that included owner of Channel 9 Dr. Noel Blackman witnessed debutants Channel 9 Warriors send one of the pre-tournament favourites West Front Road ‘Gold is Money’ crashing out of this
year’s Georgetown Zone of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Futsal Competition on Friday evening, at the National Cultural Centre Tarmac.
Playing in the quarter-finals, the Warriors who must be referred to as the giant killers in the competition, produced a thrilling performance to keep the usually efficient West Front Road off the scoresheet, before Kevin Barrow’s stunning 37th strike from the left flank raced into an empty net after the opposition’s last stop had committed himself forward.
Defending champions North Ruimveldt were also involved in an enthralling encounter with Bent Street, before surviving 2-1 on penalty kicks after battling to a 1-1 stalemate in regulation time, while Sparta Boss, one of the favourites to win the tournament, outlasted North East La Penitence 2-0 in an exciting slugfest.
The most lopsided win of the night was recorded by former national champions Back Circle who beat East Front Road 3-0 to join the Warriors, Sparta Boss and North Ruimveldt in the semi-finals set for Tuesday, at the same venue.
