The Trophy Stall Doubles Championship closed with nail biting matches with the best of the best squaring off for the title of Mixed Doubles champion. Daniel Lopes and Aretta Dey, who have become a formidable force in
the category after their recent decision to become partners, had a battle in the first set of the finals. Nicolas Glasgow and Nicola Ramdyhan outplayed them in the set and proved to be better in almost every department of their game and closed an easy set 6-3. However, the momentum shifted in the second set as Lopes/Dey took an early break of serve to move ahead 2-0. It appeared that break was all they needed as they quickly settled and secured the second set 6-2.
Both teams held to open the pivotal set however breaks were traded. The will power and determination of Lopes and Dey gave an extra edge in the game as they etched another break to close the set at 6-4, crowning them this year’s Trophy Stall Mixed Doubles Champions.
The race to the semifinals by Jason Andrews and Daniel Lopes in their inaugural partnership came to end as they were dispelled from the competition by the defending champions Nicholas Fenty and Leyland Leacock 6-4, 6-4.
Fenty/Leacock had an early break of serve and took a 5-2 lead. While the game appeared to be quickly slipping from the grasp of Andrews/Lopes, they held and immediately broke to go back on serve 5-4. Serving to stay in the set proved to be a tougher challenge for the pair which Fenty/Leacock took great advantage over by holding their nerves and broke again to secure the set. Once again, Fenty/Leacock took an early break in the second set and was broken later in the set to go back on 4-3. Fenty, who held serve comfortably throughout the match, found himself 15-40 down on his serve but he wasted no time in erasing break opportunities and secured the set at 6-4. Fenty/Leacock then went into the finals to face Harry Pandy and Anthony Downes. Unfortunately, one of their opponents had an emergency travel which gave the pair a walkover, crowning Fenty/Leacock as 2016 Men’s Doubles Champions.
