For hundreds of Children of Angoy’s Avenue and surrounding areas over the past two Sundays the Christmas Season came early and they were given the expectation of a great New Year.
The local chapter of the US-based Florida/ Guyana Hope Incorporated a non-profit organization, based in the Crabwood Creek, Upper Corentyne area provided the treat.
The group travelled to New Amsterdam to join with the Justice for the Unjust (JFTU) NGO and bring smiles to the faces of hundreds of underprivileged and less fortunate children and adults in Angoy’s Avenue, Mount Sinai, Vryman’s Erven, Tucber Park and Smythfield.
The guests received clothing, footwear, food, bags as well as other necessities. The distribution was done at the JFTU office at Smythfield, New Amsterdam.
The Florida/ Guyana group was formed in December 2013 in the USA. So far it has been making a number of significant contributions to a number of groups and persons in the country.
It has donated over US$18,000 to the Guyana Chapter.
A Guyanese chapter was subsequently formed headed by Baijnauth with Carmen Ally as Secretary. The other local members are Bharat, Sahadeo Angad-the Treasurer and Helene Habibulla.
The group has so far donated over 100 computers to schools and other organizations in Berbice in addition to clothing, footwear and wheel chairs were also donated. Someone who had to undergo an eye surgery in Trinidad received help while persons with cancer were also assisted to cover expense for their treatment. Persons were also assisted with kidney transplant in Georgetown, while others were assisted to acquire prostetic legs and regular feeding programmes to orphanages.
The collaboration exercise between the Guyanese NGO’S is expected to continue and expand in the near future.
