A student of the St. Agnes Primary School was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday morning, after he was attacked by a swarm of bees at his Lamaha Squatting Area Home.
Eight-year-old, Manasseh Henry was bitten about his body by the insects after he had ventured to the back of his yard to use the bathroom. The lad has been discharged from the hospital and is at home in the care of his mother, Carla Adams.
Adams told Kaieteur News that she was not home when the incident occurred. She said that her son was rescued by a close relative, who took him to the hospital. According to the mother, persons in the neighbourhood were reluctant to render assistance to her child, despite his screams.
She said that a relative who resides in neighbouring village, Sophia, heard Henry’s cries and thought it was a fight. The mother stated that the relative ran out and saw her son’s body plastered with the insects.
Prior to Henry being transported for medical attention, his mother said that he was drenched with water from the “blacka”. The mother related, “These bees have been living in my home and would constantly fly around at the back of the yard.”
Apart from a swollen face, Adams said that her son is experiencing constant headaches.
When this newspaper visited the family’s home yesterday the bees were seen flying around in the southern end of the yard. The bees are currently living between several wall creases at the back of the home.
Adams has since indicated that she will be contacting the relevant authorities for them to eradicate the bees.
Three weeks ago, 53 year-old, Basmattie Kishore and her two year-old granddaughter were hospitalized after they were attacked by bees at their Lot 820 Enmore, Hope West, East Coast Demerara home.
However, in this case, the bees that swarmed the two came from their neighbour’s house.
