…granted $600,000 bail
The driver who crashed into a differently able man on Thursday last, dismembering his body in the process, has been charged with the man’s death.
Driver Davendra Singh, 27, of Sixth Street, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice appeared before Magistrate Rhondell Weaver in the Weldaad Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
He is accused of around 12:45 hrs on Thursday November 29, on the Rising Sun Public Road, while driving motor car PLL 9227, he killed Shermon Harper, called ‘Deaf Boy’, 40, of Seafield Village, West Coast Berbice. Harper was reportedly riding his bicycle when he was struck by the speeding car driven by Singh.
Information revealed that the impact dismembered Harper’s body that his hand and shoulder ended up inside the car. His foot was also severed and ended on the opposite side of the road.
Reports are that after the accident there were no brakes impressions and the car which was travelling at terrific speed came to a halt some 400M away.
Harper was taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Singh was released on $600,000 bail and will have to return to court on December 9.
