After being on the run for close to six months and having wanted bulletins and arrest warrants issued for him, 24-year-old fugitive Jonathan Etwaroo, of No 48 Village, Corentyne, Berbice has been nabbed and sent to jail.
He was caught last Saturday at a house at Corriverton. The police, acting on information received, swooped down on the house where the man was hiding out.
The police had issued a bulletin for the man after he walked out of the No 51 station, having been taken into custody on an arrest warrant issued by the High Court, for flouting an order by that court.
Etwaroo was wanted for escaping from lawful custody on June 19, last. He was arrested by police on June 17, in the Black Bush Polder area on a Bench Warrant issued by a High Court Judge. The warrant had committed him to the New Amsterdam Prison until he appeared before the judge.
Etwaroo was first embroiled in a high court matter with Navendra Persaud, whom he is accused of defrauding of a sum of money. Persaud who was represented by Attorney at law Murseline Bacchus was subsequently granted a $2M judgment over Etwaroo when the matter was completed in early 2014. The judgment was for payment for a car he had rented and subsequently damaged during the day.
Since judgment was granted the man never paid the sum and was on the run. An arrest warrant was issued by a Judge in the High Court for his arrest. He was subsequently caught and placed into custody at the No 51 Police station in June 2015.
The man mysteriously walked out of the police station undetected. According to information, the man told investigators after his second arrest that while in the lock-ups, he asked to be taken out because he was feeling unwell. After he was taken out he was left unattended in the passageway. He then opened a door and calmly walked out undetected.
After that another warrant was issued for his arrest by another judge, while the police also issued a wanted bulletin for him.
