Winston Younge, an 18-year-old lumberyard worker of Base Road, Timehri, was yesterday placed before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan to answer an armed robbery charge.
It was alleged that on December 1, in Georgetown, Younge, while armed with a cutlass, robbed Vishual Doodnauth of $45,000 and one cell phone.
Younge, who was not represented by a lawyer, told the court that he was at a local Chinese store with some of his friends, when the police did an ID Parade to locate the person who committed the crime. He said that Doodnauth singled him out and the police made the arrest.
Prosecutor Deniro Jones told the court that no items were recovered. Jones had no objections to the defendant being granted his pre-trial liberty, but asked that bail be set in a substantial amount.
The Magistrate set bail at $100,000, adjourned the matter and ordered the defendant to make another court appearance on January 5.
