Dec 03, 2015 Letters
Dear Editor,
Please be kind enough to publish this letter.
These are things that need attention for the betterment of the society, the change many who voted for the present Government expected. Here is my list
1.Recently, a young man died on the # 19 Public road after hitting a cow, only the parents continue to grieve, life goes on the same for everyone else.
Before elections, Mr. Charrandas, now MP, kept saying on DTV 8, Berbice in the past how Mr Rohee was so incompetent he could not even get the animals off the road. Mr. Charrandas is now silent while the roadways have been taken over by animals, many more than in the days of Mr Rohee. Cows are seen everywhere, sometimes in herds of four and five and instead of dodging pot holes, drivers now have to dodge cows and cow dung that litter the roads. Mr Charrandas’ focus now is on cyclists who ride without light, calling on the Traffic Chief of B Division to do his job and arrest those cyclists. I wish Mr Charrandas would remember that there are cows on the roads. I call on Mr Ramjattan to attend to the matter as he was calling on Mr. Rohee.
2. In the town of New Amsterdam, bins have been placed at various points but the bins are pulled down by animals [dogs and cows] that roam the town, thus, all that was put in the bins lay scattered on the ground. Town Council workers have to do the clean up when they go to empty the bins into the tractor trailer. Editor, it is a shame to see this unsightly situation of animals and garbage in the town.
3. The Palmyra Public road shoulder is disgraceful. Trees have recently been planted along the road shoulder to beautify the roadway and to provide a “green” environment but sad to say it is also a dumping ground for things like old iron, old fridge, old stove not far from the entrance to the Berbice Bridge. No one seems concerned about this pile of rubbish that is piled up there.
4. The Public road in # 2 village and Sheet Anchor has a pedestrian walk- way marked off by a white line for the safety of pedestrians. This walk-way in many places is covered with sand caused by persons who have sand lodged on the road shoulder for months after using what they need instead of removing the rest into their yards. No one seems concerned.
Mr. Editor, these are the little things that need to be fixed if we are to make Guyana a beautiful country, as the saying goes,” one, one dutty build dam”. While a great effort is being made to clean up Georgetown we must remember that Guyana is not Georgetown only and so this clean up effort must be nationwide.
A. Bacchus,
Sheet Anchor
