-Action resumes today
Reigning title holders Stella Maris joined St. Stephen’s, North Georgetown and St. Pius, North in the knockout phase of this year’s Smalta / Ministry of Public Health Girls Pee Wee Schools Football Competition which resumed yesterday, at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue resumed yesterday.
The champs received a walkover from Sophia to earn valuable points which placed them in the next phase.
St. Pius squeezed past St. Margaret’s 1-0 through a Shanique Ferguson strike in the 17th minute of play, while, North Georgetown cruised past Winfer Garden by a 5-0 margin with Shamiya Daniels’ hat-trick in the third, 10th and 15th minutes doing most of the damage.
Angel Denny and Thanifa Phyllis goals in the 7th and 9th minutes respectively completed their tally.
St. Stephen’s inflicted a similar margin of victory over St. Ambrose with Leonanna Greaves booting in a brace in the 9th and 14th minutes respectively, while Kizieya Phillips, Shanaya Gordon and Paulette Hughes netted in the 1st , 11th and 22nd minutes.
Angel Davis 20th minute strike was enough to secure a place for South Ruimveldt in the knockout round after their narrow 1-0 triumph over St. Agnes.
In other results, Enterprise beat Smith Memorial 1-0 with Dewanie Crandon’s 9th minute effort separating the two teams.
West Ruimveldt then defended tenaciously their 1-0 advantage over St. Angela’s courtesy of an opening minute strike from Nikita Kingston.
Tucville Primary scraped past F.E. Pollard 1-0 with Shania Elexey scoring the solitary goal of the match in the 17th minute of play.
Meanwhile, play in the competition continues today with more action at the same venue.
In the opening fixtures at 13:30hrs, Tucville takes on St. Angela’s, before Stella Maris clash with South Ruimveldt.
At 14:15hrs, F.E. Pollard square off with West Ruimveldt, while Sophia engages St. Agnes.
St. Margaret’s then meet Winfer Garden, before St. Stephen’s and Smith Memorial collide.
St. Ambrose tackles Enterprise, before St. Pius and North Georgetown square off in the final game of the day.
Other sponsors on board are Sterling Products, the National Sports Commission and the Guyana Football Federation.
