The day for the Rockville Promotions 4 Miles Road Race is fast approaching and local and Foreign Athletes will be keen to cash in on the $500,000 in cash prizes made possible by a donation from the Management and staff of Rockville Hotel and Bar of 108 Third Avenue Bartica.
This race is one of the major sporting events in Bartica, which will be promoted to status of Township next year. The competition is scheduled for Tuesday December 1 to commemorate World AIDS day.
The race starts at16:00hrs at the Junction of the 4 Miles Potaro Housing Scheme on the Bartica Potaro Road and among those vying for supremacy will be Samuel December who finished second in the Bartica Regatta Cross Country Road Race and is confident of placing one better on Tuesday.
A good contest is anticipated between the students of the Bartica Secondary and the 3 Miles Secondary of Bartica. The Primary school students will also compete in the U-13 category and the athletes in Bartica are busy preparing for what is expected to be an exciting race and students from the Bartica Secondary are involved in rigorous training sessions under the watchful eyes of their Coach.
The winners, along with the first and second runners-up in the various categories will receive $20,000, $10,000 and $5,000 respectively in the event that has categories in U-13, 15, 17, 19, Open and over-40
where Cash and Trophies will be up for grabs.
Rockville Hotel Promotions is committed to the development of sports and cultural tourism as such this activity will be staged annually to herald in the series of sports and cultural events to be staged monthly in collaboration with the Regional Administration and the Neighborhood Democratic Council or Town Council along with other community Groups leading up to the Grand Finale to be held annually on April 23 celebrating Bartica’s township status.
“Our vision is to encourage competition between athletes on the coastland and their brothers and sisters in the hinterland, and giving them an opportunity to experience and cover a slightly hilly course and feel the vibes of our rich hinterland, we invite local and foreign tourists to come and witness this spectacular event , bringing together athletes from the Secondary and Primary Schools in Bartica and the Open and Masters Categories open to all Guyana and any foreigner wishing to participate in this inaugural event,” stated Coordinator Aaron Blackman.
At the Presentation, members of the National AIDS Programme Secretariat
are expected to deliver presentations to generate HIV/AIDS awareness in Bartica and its environs, while athletes and fans will be given an opportunity to tour the Rockville Hotel and BAR.
The National Sports Commission and the Regional Administration of Region 7 will also be presenting trophies and cash prizes.
All interested athletes can uplift registration forms from the National Sports Commission (NSC) Homestretch Avenue, Rockville Hotel and Bar 108 Third Avenue Bartica, the Regional Chairman Office Region 7, Guyana Olympic Association Main Street, Georgetown.
Residents of Bartica are invited to join the Rockville Athletic Club of Bartica which should soon be affiliated to the Athletic Association of Guyana and it is hoped that a strong contingent of Athletes from Bartica will represent there in National and International meetings in the near future.
Athletes are asked to assemble at the Bartica Community Center at 15:00hrs to be transported to the starting point while members of the Community are asked to assist by volunteering transportation along the route for athletes who may need such during the race.
The Regional Chairman Mr. Gordon Bradford is expected to deliver an address immediately before the race.
