—released on $150,000 bail
It doesn’t pay to be greedy. Yesterday an unemployed woman was placed before City Magistrate Fabayo
Azore, after it was alleged that she broke into the dwelling house of Lord Apiah, of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara and stole a gun with matching ammunition.
The woman, Latoya Needleman, 20, who hails from D’Urban Street, Lodge, Georgetown is accused of breaking and entering the dwelling house between October 12 and October 13. The court heard that the woman stole one .32 Revolver; seven .32 rounds of ammunition; two Gold rings; two cell phones; one Apple Tab; three Laptops; three wrist watches and one pair of spectacles. The items carry a total value of $1,752,000.
Needleman, who had no lawyer, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted a $150,000 bail. Police Corporal Simone Payne presented the prosecution’s case and objected to the defendant been granted pre-trail liberty. The prosecutor argued that bail should be refused based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offence. However her objection was over-ruled by the Magistrate.
The mother of two is expected to return to court on December 7, before the Chief Magistrate.
