A GHRA team, consisting of Chairman Vick Oditt, Legal Adviser Raj Poonai, members Kris Jagdeo and Lakeram Sukhdeo participated in a series of activities organized by Mr Robert Dabdoub of the THOROUGHBRED OWNERS & BREEDERS ASSOCIATION (TOBA) in Jamaica, from November 13 to 16.
Team members were special guests at the Inaugural TOBA Awards Dinner on Friday 13th, where a presentation of a number of thoroughbred racing books was made to the team. These will be used to initiate the GHRA library.
On Super Stakes Saturday the team was treated to an exciting day’s racing at Caymanas Park, Jamaica’s only racetrack.
The 2015 TOBA yearling sale on Sunday 15th was the highlight of the visit since team members were active participants and purchased 3 yearlings, which will be ready to race in 2016.
Tours were also organized to the Nunes Racing Stables, the largest in Jamaica and to HAM Stables, a leading Thoroughbred Breeding operation.
The opportunity was also taken to update our colleagues from Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago on the status of local horseracing and on our ongoing lobbying efforts to have Legislation introduced in Guyana.
The Team’s visit was extensively covered in the Jamaican media through television interviews and the Observer newspaper.
