Digicel Guyana Inc. has disclosed its sponsorship of Guyana’s most prestigious schools’ sports event, the National Schools’ Cycling, Swimming and Track and Field Championships, for a fifth year at the

Digicel’s Sponsorship and Events Manager, Luanna Abrams committed the company’s support for the event. “We’re passionate over youth and sport development in Guyana and we once again pledge our commitment to the championships,” Abrams stated.
Digicel has been the major sponsor of the Championships since 2010. The Principle Assistant Secretary (PAS) (Finance) within the Ministry of Education, Glendon Fogenay thanked Digicel for their continued support at a presentation ceremony yesterday.
“I must say thanks to Digicel for this sponsorship. It is wonderful to work with Digicel, and we hope that they continue with us for years to come and that the relationship can only grow in the future,” Fogenay said at Digicel Headquarters in Kingston.
“We are working hard to ensure that this year’s Championship is the best out of all the previous ones,” Fogenay informed, adding that all systems are in place to host the mega event that will be held over five days beginning on Monday with the Swimming Competition at National Aquatics Centre, Liliendaal.
In addition to the swimming competition, two field events, Long Jump and Shot Putt, along with the 10km road race, 40km and 25km cycle road race will also take place on Monday. The aim is to ensure prompt completion of competition days.
The Games Village will be established on Woolford Avenue. Tutorial High, North Georgetown Primary and Secondary Schools and Richard Ishmael Secondary will house the 15 Districts from across Guyana that will compete at the Championships. The official Opening Ceremony for the Championships is scheduled for 10am on Tuesday.
