It was a bright sunny morning on Friday, November 6, 1998 that the MV Cananwaima
made its first trip from South Drain on the Suriname side at 9:00 am to Moleson Creek Terminal, Guyana.
It has over the years been providing a critical service linking the two neighbours, transporting vehicles, tourists, and goods.
Last Friday, the management of Canawaima, as well as members of Region Six business community celebrated its 17th anniversary at the Moleson Creek terminal.
According to Louise Williams, General Manager of Cananwaima, there have been changes to improve the aesthetics of the Moleson Creek terminal and maintain affordable fares over the past 17 years.
