Dear Editor,
I wish to bring to the attention of the Minister of Communities the plight the residence faced on a daily basis by a long forgotten, onerous and treacherous road that the citizens of Mahaicony have to face; the Mahaicony Branch Road. A journey which should have taken two minutes to Perth Village from central Mahaicony becomes a long twenty (20) minutes agonizing journey. Drivers have to manoeuvre their way as though they are traversing a treacherous terrain in some remote inhabited area. Drivers have to service their vehicles every week due to damaged incurred because of this unforgiven road. For those who work taxi, over 90% of their earnings returned into servicing their vehicle and little to live on a daily basis. The daily printed media reported of $191 million contracts awarded to rehabilitate roads in a few selected communities. Why is Mahaicony Branch Road neglected? Many senior functionaries of the past administration and the judiciary traverse this road regularly. I guess they don’t personally pay to have their vehicles serviced. We the residence do and it cost oh yes a hell of money to do so. We voted for change and yes we want a better road with yes street lights.
