The parents of the newborn boy, who sustained a fractured skull after a nurse reportedly dropped him in the maternity ward at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), have retained a lawyer in their quest to be compensated for injuries their baby sustained.
This publication has been reliably informed that the infant’s parents, Akeem Balgobin and Pholmattie Ramjattan, have been able to retain Attorney-at-law, Anil Nandlall, to represent them as they pursue legal action against the hospital.
Nandlall yesterday confirmed this development pointing out that he has already sent a letter to the hospital and another to the doctor, who performed the surgery on the baby last Friday.
The attorney said that he requested the infant’s medical report from the GPHC and the findings will be used as the basis for litigation.
Minister of Public Health, Dr. George Norton could not be reached for a comment yesterday but he had stated that the nurse in question was sent on leave to facilitate an investigation which was launched a day after the incident was reported.
He did say that if it is found that the baby sustained injuries as a result of negligence, action will be taken against the people involved.
